Over 3000 runners expected at the 34th Rössing Marathon
The Rössing National Marathon Championship is set to make its triumphant return for the 34th consecutive year on March 8, 2025, at the coastal town of Swakopmund.
Rössing Corporate Communication manager Daylight Ekandjo was thrilled to announce that over 3,000 runners are expected to take part in this iconic event.
“This year’s marathon promises to be bigger and better than ever, with participants from around the country and world ready to conquer the course and make history,” she said.
Ekandjo added that the Rössing marathon is one of the mine’s Corporate Social Responsibility events hosted at the beginning of the year and has become a popular event on the sporting calendar in Namibia, which draws runners of all skill levels, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs.
As one of the premier running events on the Athletics Namibia calendar, the Rössing Marathon is known not only for its challenging course but also for its inspiring atmosphere that unites the community and celebrates health, fitness, and perseverance.
“The 34th edition of our marathon is a remarkable milestone,” said Ekandjo. “We are excited to welcome all the runners to Swakopmund and are ready to make it a memorable event for both new and returning runners.”
The race will feature a full marathon (42.2 km), as well as shorter race categories, including a half marathon (21.1 km) and 10 km run, allowing athletes of all abilities to join in the excitement. Spectators will be treated to the energy and enthusiasm of runners as they navigate scenic routes through the beautiful town of Swakopmund with designated water points to support the participants every step of the way.
In addition to the race, the event will include a 5km fun walk in support of the Cancer Association of Namibia.
“We encourage families to come out in numbers to support this noble initiative of the 5km fun walk,” Ekandjo concluded.
