Rössing Uranium donated consumables worth N$ 10 000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Service’s (MOHSS) TB screening campaign for Erongo region on Friday, 30 August. Rössing Uranium’s acting Manager for Health, Safety, Environment and Protection Services Stefaans Gaeseb handed over the donation.
“These resources are crucial in our ongoing battle against this disease, symbolizing our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our community,” said Gaeseb. Gaeseb said “the fight against tuberculosis requires our collective effort, and today’s donation is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared responsibility in achieving a future where this disease no longer poses a threat to our communities.”
Accepting the donation was Senior Medical Officer for the Swakopmund District Hospital Dr David Tjiyokola, saying Erongo region is one of the regions with high TB burden in Namibia. “TB is a disease that affects all communities and mining communities are no exception. For this reason, the Ministry received funds to conduct TB mass screening targeting the mining communities.”
“These screenings required quite a few resources including clinical items, infrastructure and transport. Hence, we reached out to our stakeholders, and we want to thank Rössing Uranium for promptly responding to our request,” he said.
The donation consists of:
- Ten boxes of gloves
- Five blood pressure machines
- Ten Hard cover books
- Two Thermo guns and batteries
- Twenty bundles of paper towels
The mass screening campaign commenced on 28 August 2024.
